Covenant Development Foundation (CDF) is an independent, indigenous, non-political, Community Based Organization (CBO) with a primary mission to provide education to poor, disadvantaged and neglected orphans whose parents have died of HIV/AIDS. We aim to help their families to overcome poverty and hopelessness in Uganda through helping them initiate sustainable income generating projects.

CDF is currently operating its activities in Hoima district as to maximize its efforts in Uganda though we hope to expand our efforts in other districts depending on the availability of funding and resources. Our national office is situated in Hoima Town

Uganda has over 2 million orphans registered, and it is estimated that 1 in every 7 orphans in Africa is Ugandan. In Uganda 25% of all households look after at least one child orphaned by either HIV/AIDS or war. It is vital for these children’s future, and the future of Uganda that these children are provided with a secure and supportive environment or else many may become part of Uganda’s "lost generation”. It will be very difficult for Uganda to economically grow and prosper in the future as many of these children are growing up in an unstable, uncertain and impoverished environment. How can the future leaders of Uganda successfully lead our country without adequate education, basic necessities, support, love and care? CDF - seeks to provide a better life now and a constructive future for these children.

As Nelson Mandela states “Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity, it is an act of Justice”.

CDF warmly invites international volunteers to offer their support and services to help create a bright future for these children and their families by giving them the most important thing in life - opportunities. CDF accepts any volunteers over the age of 18 years old, from any country, individual, couple or group volunteer placements.Covenant Development Foundation is fully recognized and registered by the Republic of Uganda as a Community Based Organization.

About Us

CDF CURRENT PROJECT AREA OF FOCUS

Covenant Development Foundation is currently focusing all it's efforts in Hoima District which is about  270 kilometers North of Kampala. Our operational offices are located in Hoima town a rural  community facing very serious challenges. Limited educational opportunities, extreme poverty, malnutrition, poor basic health services, and disease such as HIV/AIDS and Bilharzias (contracted from contaminated water) plague these families daily. A significant number of households are single parent homes, generally without fathers who are the traditional income earners. Widows who have little to no marketable skills struggle to provide not only for their own children, but often for children of their extended families and friends who have been orphaned by AIDS.

The lack of economic power of the local community, especially among women, is a major obstacle to long term development. Covenant Development Foundation (CDF) income generation programs provide women marketable skills and form a crucial part of promoting sustainable development in the area. CDF seeks to address the needs of struggling single parent families and widows in Hoima village through the Women Empowerment Program (WEP). CDF assists widows and caregivers in developing practical skills concentrating in the production and sale of indigenous African crafts such as jewelry, baskets, and mats for profit. CDF’s goal is that each family generates a sustainable source of income that wholly supports their family and allows their children to remain in school. CDF provides equipment and materials to start these small businesses and facilitates in bringing the crafts to market.
